December 12, 2019 (MOBILE, AL) – After almost two years and with many hurdles to clear, Mobile Sports & Entertainment Group has now officially assumed the lease for Hank Aaron Stadium.
Since 1997, the Mobile BayBears were the official tenant of The Hank until the final game was played on September 2, 1019. The BayBears will remain in the Southern League but have now been relocated to Madison, AL and will be known as the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
Hank Aaron Stadium will now have a new tenant through 2022 and, hopefully, beyond. Mobile Sports & Entertainment Group (MSEG) has been assigned the current lease by BallCorps, the current owner of the Trash Pandas. For months, MSEG has been planning to build a company that will host a variety of events fully geared toward the community, the city of Mobile and surrounding communities. Future events will include corporate luncheons, weddings, baseball events, large tournaments, concerts, festivals and much more.
The biggest aspect of MSEG is that all members, including the four partners, are either from Mobile or have been here long enough to call Mobile home. Never before has The Hank seen a tenant with local majority ownership. The group began in 2017 when two coworkers and former Assistant General Managers of the BayBears, Ari Rosenbaum and John Hilliard, came together with the idea of taking over the venue that sits at the corner of Bolling Brothers Boulevard and Satchel Paige Drive. Since that time, two more owners, Kevin Grimes and Lex Rosenbaum, were added and Mobile Sports & Entertainment Group was born.
While developing plans for Hank Aaron Stadium, working with city officials and BallCorps on the lease arrangement, we decided to purchase what is known as Thriller Nights of Lights and Christmas Nights of Lights. Both events contain a full drive-through light show featuring 1.5 million lights synchronized to music. Since 2014, these two shows were previously hosted by Titan Light Shows in the parking lot of The Hank. We purchased these light shows in an effort to keep them in Mobile and as a flagship operation to show that family-affordable events is what MSEG is all about. Thriller Nights of Lights was open every night through October 31st and Christmas Nights of Lights is open every night through January 1st from 5:30pm – 10:00pm.
History is very important to us at MSEG. A large part of our plan is to reopen the Hank Aaron Childhood Home and Museum, a landmark of Hank Aaron Stadium. We plan to make it better than before by filling it up with rich stories, history and memorabilia, not only from Aaron’s career, but from the far-reaching baseball history of the city of Mobile.
Providing affordable, community-based entertainment is our goal. Providing an environment for sports entertainment and being a catalyst for careers in sports is our inspiration. Creating memories one event at a time is our mission. We will preserve the past, participate in the present and prepare for the future.
Hank Aaron Stadium is open for business and Mobile Sports & Entertainment Group intends to keep it that way. At The Hank, any event is possible and we are ready to start booking now. Our official front office staff is listed below. Please contact us with any questions or information about events.
